Tooth Crowns in Johns Creek

What Is a Tooth Crown?

A tooth crown—also referred to as a tooth cap—is a procedure in which an artificial crown is permanently bonded over the natural tooth. Crowns are most commonly used to repair small cracks or hold a dental bridge in place when an entire tooth has been removed. They may also be used following a root canal. A dentist may even make cosmetic repairs with crowns if a tooth is discolored or irregularly shaped. Our dentists will be able to examine your teeth to determine if dental caps are right for you.

Where Can I Find a Dentist Who Does Crowns?

While there are many sub-specialties of dentistry, a crown is a basic procedure that most dentists will be able to perform. Call our office if you’d like to learn more about the services that our dentists can provide. You’ll find that our dentists are the highly qualified to put in a tooth crown in Johns Creek.

What Are the Types of Dental Crowns?

Some temporary crowns are made of plastic or steel; our dentists use them to protect the tooth while a permanent crown is produced in a laboratory.

Porcelain crowns are a popular choice. This is a ceramic crown material that matches the color of the natural tooth; it will be difficult for observers to tell that you have a crown at all. For this reason, many people prefer porcelain for their front tooth crown.

Gold is still used to produce crowns for teeth, and it actually offers many advantages. It is less prone to chipping or cracking, and not as much removal of tooth material is required. It is most popular for back molars since most people will not mind having a gold crown tooth where nobody can see it.

What Is the Cost of a Dental Crown?

As with any dental procedure, the dental crown cost will vary based on the extent of the repairs that need to be made. The material used for the crown is also a factor. Get in touch with our office today to find out more about the cost of a crown procedure and what your dental insurance covers.

How Is a Dental Crown Procedure Performed?

The most basic crown procedure can be completed in just two visits. First, the dentist will determine the extent of the damage and the proper type of crown. A mold will be taken of your teeth, and this mold will be used to produce the crown. Our dentist will place a temporary dental cap to protect your tooth while the crown is being fabricated. At your next visit, our dentist will put in the permanent crown.

More visits may be required for a tooth with extensive damage. The dentists at our practice will be able to examine your teeth and tell you what type of crown is required and how many visits it will take.
