Proper dental care is important for all ages.
Good dental health requires daily care of your teeth, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups. It is recommended that you receive professional dental check-ups and cleaningss at least 1-2 times per year. At Hickory Flat Dental we provide top service for your annual check-ups and cleanings as well as necessary treatment you may need.
How to avoid dental problems? Good daily dental practice, including:
- Brush after meals with a toothbrush that has soft or medium bristles
- Use toothpaste with fluoride
- Use dental floss every day
- Eat fewer sweets, especially between meals
- Do not smoke or chew tobacco products
- Visit your dentist for regular check-ups
The American Academy of Pediatrics has taken a strong position to promote the awareness of dental health as part of an overall health concern in children. In 2008, a National Summit on Children’s Oral Health looked into the various aspects of oral health in children in the United States. It was determined that half of all children in the United States will develop cavities, and some will experience severe disease. Doctors realized that more education is needed for parents, and the pediatric community needed to work more closely with dental professionals to improve the oral health of children.
New recommended guidelines for screenings now have children seeing a dentist as young as age one or when the first tooth erupts. Early intervention and detection of dental issues is the best way to ensure proper growth and development. Imparting proper hygiene at a young age can also lead to healthier teeth and gums. At Hickory Flat Dental, our doctors are specialists at treating children and have additional training to deal with issues specific to developing mouths. We partner with many health care providers including pediatricians, family practitioners and hospitals to provide educational materials, referral channels and case consultations when needed.
